Student & COVID
Indeed, COVID caused many troubles to people in every field in this world. But let me clear one thing about COVID, and then we’ll move to the effects of COVID (Both pros & cons) on the life of students.
Being a Muslim, I strongly believe that COVID is a trial from Allah Almighty because Allah says in Qur’an:
And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient, (Surah Al-Baqarah:155)
So, What are the problems we faced with COVID? A lot of Death, People losing their jobs & hunger, and it is clearly mentioned in this ayah that this all is for the test.
From Student’s Perspective
Everybody knows COVID forced us to switch to online moods from face-to-face classes. We have to stay at home.
As a student of bachelor’s, it's almost one and half years passed, and I’m at my home because of this pandemic. In this interval, I realize these Pros.
Pros
- Relation with Allah Almighty
I’m not exaggerating at this point, because it is fact. Research says, In this interval In every 10 Muslims, 6 Muslims came close to Allah in COVID. And I strongly believed in this fact. Because Me and Many others which are close to me, experienced this. There is an unbelievable increase in our faith in Alhamdulillah, and our bond with Allah Almighty became strong.
I think the bigger factor after Hidaya from Allah Almighty is of Time. We all have extra time. Before COVID, we make the lame excuses of not having time for Ibadah, Reading the Qur’an, and things like that (because of which, we’re going away from Allah day by day). But in this interval, who utilize their time and have blessed Hidaya from Allah, they started to ponder over the message of Allah (Qur’an), started practicing Islam in light of Sunnah & get improved spiritually and increase their relation with Allah.
2. Relationship with Family
Again this is also because of time & being at home. . In this materialistic life, we’re too much busy & can’t manage our time in such a way that we can sit & enjoy ourselves with our family. We have no time for them. Though we’re close ones, still we were very far from each other. This lockdown helped us to spend & enjoy more time with families. We realized about every member of our family that what they are for you & what you care for them.
3. Extra Skills (Self-taught)
In this interval, students learned many extra skills in this interval. They learned web development, Android development, Graphic designing, and many many more. In this way, they used the Internet in the best way. A practical example of this fact is that personally, we come to know about the term of Programming in the 2nd semester & adjust with it after the 3rd semester. But now, the students of the first semester have skills in Python, web dev, android dev. They learned a lot, a lot.
4. We became Independent
The most bigger factor is that COVID makes us independent. COVID made us able to learn & explore a variety of things. COVID gave us the ability to adapt ourselves in every situation. In face to face mood, students shared their problems with their mates and they solved them. But in an online mood, though it is happening, not in that sense of actual help. So, Student faced new challenges, solved them independently (obviously after hard tries), and became independent to some extent in this interval.
Cons
- Online Classes
Obv it is such a disadvantage that no one can deny it.
There’s a big gap in the self-development of students because of the online system. Confidence levels increase tremendously in the face-to-face mood because of interactions with teachers, mates, uni students. And these things aren't possible in an online mood. Quoting my own personal thinking here:
No need to take a lecture, I’ll listen recorded lecture later on. (And I take these recorded lectures in last days of semester, before exams(for passing them), at 2x or more than that speed xD). Yes it helps to passing semester (with low grades), but can’t give that knowlegde that came from daily base learning.
2. Laziness
Can you refuse it?
Though we became independent & learned new skills, still we (Maybe not you, so Just I) wasted a lot of time due to lack of focus, consistency & laziness. I almost wasted more than a combined 7 to 8 months (among 17 months of 3 semesters) without learning & doing anything productive & creative. Just wasted it using social media.
When an interval of laziness comes, it’s really hard to back to that focus again. Really hard!
3. Procrastination
We plan for the whole day or for a couple of days for learning or doing a new thing, but then didn't do it or left it after some work.
Just because of procrastination. We’re wasting our major time without doing anything productive.
Conclusion
Anyways, I wanna discuss some more points but keeping the length of this article in my view, I’ll stop here. Indeed Covid is a trial, pray to Allah Almighty for patience & courage to face it.
Thanks for reading upto here🙌🏻
