→ Ar-Rahmaan

Meaning

Allah's comprehensive mercy which He shows to all His creation without exception by creating them and providing for them. In simple words, His mercy is prevalent over all creatures in the world, whether the one is a Believer or not. Linguistically, Rahmaan points out the intensity, abundance, and vastness of the mercy of Allah ‘azza wajal.

Do you have Eyes & Ears? Do you have a sense of smell? Do you have Legs, arms, and thinking powers? blessings of water, oxygen, rain & any many more………

Ask those who haven’t these organs. Ask them how much they can pay for getting these. Then, you’ll know the cost of these organs. Still, you’re thinking how’s Allah is merciful to everyone? He always shows His kindness to us no matter how sinful we’re.

Allah uses this name in Qur’an many times. So, let’s have a look at some of those Ayah.

The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established. (Surah Ta-Ha, 20:5)

[This is] a revelation from the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful — (Surah Fussilat, 41:2)

Say, “Call upon Allah or call upon the Most Merciful [ar-Raḥmān]. Whichever [name] you call — to Him belong the best names. (Surah Al-Isra, 17:110)

As for those who believe and do good, the Most Merciful (Allah) will ˹certainly˺ bless them with ˹genuine˺ love. (Surah Maryam 19:96)

→ Ar-Raheem

Meaning:

This Name is from the same root word of the Ar-Rahmaan, which is r-h-m (رحم). Basically, r-h-m points to four meanings.

  1. To have gentleness and to love
  2. To have mercy.
  3. To show favor.
  4. To have all that is required for beneficence.

Also, Ar-Raheem refers to the particular mercy that He has exclusively for the Believers, both in this life and in the hereafter. You can’t even imagine how much Allah loves his Servant when he turns towards Him & calls Him.

Allah also used this name in Qur’an many times.

Say, ˹O Prophet, that Allah says,O My servants who have exceeded the limits against their souls! Do not lose hope in Allah’s mercy, for Allah certainly forgives all sins. He is indeed the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Surah Az-Zumar, 39:53)

Say, "He is the Most Merciful; we have believed in Him, and upon Him we have relied. (Surah Al-Mulk, 67:29)

For He is ever Merciful to the believers. ( Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:43)

Also, there are bundles of Ayah in which Allah uses the Word Raheem with Al-Gafoor (Forgiver). I mean, He is the forgiver as well as merciful for believers, beyond from one’s expectations.

Inform My servants ˹O Prophet˺ that I am truly the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful, (Surah Al-Hijr, 15:49)

Now it’s our duty to turn to Ar-Raheem for attaining His blessing by obeying Him, striving for Taqwa, Asking for his compassion, understanding, and implementing his message of the Qur’an.

→ Al-Malik

Meaning:

Allah is the Master. This name is describing His glory, majesty, and governess over His creations.

Al-Malik comes from the root maa-laa-kaa (مَلكَ), which points to three main meanings.

  1. To have possession and ownership.
  2. To have power and the ability
  3. To control and have authority.

He is the One to whom belongs the absolute dominion of the heavens and the earth and everything in them. The entire universe is under His control.

He is Allah — there is no god except Him: the King, the Most Holy, the All-Perfect, (Surat Al-Hashr, 59:23)

There is nothing above Him. He alone has true and supreme dominion and disposes of the entire universe in the manner He pleases. He is the owner of everything. The name Al-Maleek points to Allah’s absolute and glorious sovereignty.

Al-Malik gives authority to whomever He wants in this world, and He has supreme authority and is ruled by no one!

Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “O Allah! Lord over all authorities! You give authority to whoever You please and remove it from who You please; You honour whoever You please and disgrace who You please—all good is in Your Hands. Surely You ˹alone˺ are Most Capable of everything. (Surat Al-Imraan, 3:26)

Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth is exalting Allah, the Sovereign, (Surah Al-Jumu’ha, 62:1)

Always humble yourself if you’re in the position of a boss or a leader, always remember that there is a supreme King.
